You start googling, and suddenly, it's 3 AM. Your brain is mush, and your eyes are bloodshot. Everyone faces this make-or-break moment.

My brain was on the verge of insanity.
Staring at my screen, I was drowning in options. Beehiiv, ActiveCampaign, Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Substack, ConvertKit, MailerLite... the list went on. Each one promised the moon, yet none quite fitted the bill.
So, I did what any sane person would do. I went on a research bender that would make a PhD student blush. At first, I visited each platform's website to learn about its features, prices, and plans. Read reviews on G2, Capterra, PCMag, Trustpilot, and GetApp. I wanted to understand everything.

Here's why: spam filters are like bouncers at an exclusive club. There are too many links, and you're in the spam folder.
Sure, it's tempting to bombard your readers with links. More clicks, right? But you can't get clicks if your email never reaches the inbox.
There's a rule: up to one link for every 125 words. I've tested this. Fewer links = More inboxes = More eyeballs = More money in your pocket.
It's hit me on what to focus on when choosing a platform.
1. Analytics: You need to know your numbers. Look for detailed performance dashboards, advanced analytics, custom data collection, and easy data export.
2. Monetization: Turn your passion into profit. Platforms should offer premium subscriptions, ad network access, and content paywalls. Paid recommendations and multiple premium tiers are also important.
3. General Features: Export payments quickly. Use referral programs. Segment your audience. Send unlimited emails. Collaborate with your team. Keep web archives.
4. Customization: Stand out. Seek reusable templates, dynamic personalization, custom domains, HTML/CSS capabilities, and interactive content.
5. Deliverability: Get into the inbox. Focus on email validation, spam compliance, and double opt-in features.
6. Pricing: Balance cost and features. Look for flat-rate pricing and free plans to start.
7. Technology: Stay ahead. Opt for SEO-optimized CMS, API access, AI features, and advanced segmentation.
8. Growth Tools: Expand your reach. Use polls, pop-ups, form builders, recommendations, and A/B testing.
9. Integration: Work seamlessly. Check for embeddable subscribe forms, Zapier compatibility, and API access.
Here's the kicker: There's no perfect platform. But after doing this legwork, I found one that meets my must-haves.
For me, that ended up being Beehiiv. It hit the sweet spot on analytics, monetization, and ease of use. However, your mileage may vary based on your specific needs.
